Microsoft just announced that ESPN3 will be exclusively available to Xbox 360 owners who have an Xbox LIVE Gold membership. ESPN3, which used to be called ESPN360, will broadcast 3,500 live sporting events this year straight to gamers’ 360s. At the announcement, SportsCenter anchors Trey Wingo and Josh Elliott demonstrated how users can access instant replays, highlights, polls and more on the video game console. Naturally, ESPN3 will also support Microsoft’s recently renamed Kinect, formerly known as Project Natal. We’re interested to see the many ways Kinect is used, not only here but with other projects, as more details become clear about it.

With baseball season in full swing and football season ramping up soon, we’ll gladly welcome streaming sports delivered directly to our consoles. The addition of ESPN3 indicates that Microsoft remains committed to branding the Xbox 360 as an entertainment hub rather than just a gaming console. By bringing the Worldwide Leader in Sports on board, Microsoft might not acquire many new consumers. But it will make for some very pleased Xbox loyalists. [From: Engadget]
